The latest report from Sport reveals that Frenkie de Jong’s future at Barcelona is still unclear. Although still under contract until 2026, the club is said not to rule out the opportunity to release the player.
One of the considerations that makes Barcelona willing to let go is because De Jong is one of the highest-paid players in the squad.
Previously, there was news that Barcelona planned to extend his tenure until 2029, but until today, there has been no development.
The 26-year-old footballer would have been the highest-paid player on the team because of adjustments made during the pandemic. His contract included the possibility of earning over €20 million net in the last two seasons.
Deco, the sporting director of Blaugrana, wants to discuss a contract extension that involves spreading the player’s wages over a longer time.

The reason of De Jong leaving
Frenkie de Jong is open to leaving Barcelona due to concerns about the club’s direction following the imminent departure of coach Xavi. He wants to join a club capable of fighting to win the Champions League.
